An Ode To Musical Congregation: Babani Soundsystem Releases 'Dan Bwa'

With Mauritius being one of the few lands to party hard throughout 2020, Babani Soundsystem is fully charged with a new treat. ‘Dan Bwa’, meaning “in the woods” in Mauritian Creole, is an ode to festive forest gatherings on the island, echoing the dances of the people to the prayers in percussions. In the single’s hypnotic visuals, a diverse yet unified movement proves to be the people’s saving grace.

Released as a single as well as part of FPE’s 10-year celebrations, “A Compilation For Practically Everyone”, ‘Dan Bwa’ is the second track of a collection of “sounds that probably don’t sound like anything you’re listening to right now.”  After which, it might be on loop.

It is now 2021 and many of us still long for the pre-pandemic partying that we took for granted. Until the world is safe enough to cross seas and borders in the name of musical congregation and devotion, we can look to Babani Soundsystem to supply us our rhythmic fix, watch their stories with permissible envy, and imbibe their tales of how the dark shadows are defeated - through unity and movement.
